How Can Husbands and Wives Encourage One Another Spiritually?

February 10

by Joel E. Kim

In this video, Rev. Joel Kim discusses the fundamental principles of spiritual growth between spouses, offering insights into cultivating a Christ-centered marriage.

“How can husbands and wives encourage one another spiritually?” is a simple question, but very difficult to answer. I think each family is very different. All of us come with sometimes baggages that we carry from our families, and the parents that we’ve seen, as well as marriages that we’re accustomed to.

And I must confess that sometimes praying with your spouse is one of the most awkward things—to be able to share with one another those concerns that we have, and I recognize those things. However, it’s about a regular practice. Questioning one another, not as with doubts, but in terms of encouragement through questions, how we are doing spiritually. I think is also important one.

I think it’s also important that we engage in those activities that allow us to ask questions about the Word and how we understand the teachings of the Word. I think is an important part of our mutual encouragement as well.

But if I can be overly simplistic. Husbands and wives who encourage, prayerfully, each other to be at church on a regular basis. I realize that seems so simple. That everyone’s doing it. I must confess, that’s not the easiest thing for people these days in terms of busyness and distractions of life. But to participate together in the godly means of grace. For us to worship together. And encouraging each other so that we keep each other accountable in that, already, I think, leads us in a path of mutual encouragement to place Jesus forefront in our marriage as well.
