Judgment and Hope

We conclude our study of 2 Peter this month, first continuing our look at Peter’s devastating portrait of the false teachers in chapter 2. Peter exposes their insatiable appetite for sin, their exploitation of vulnerable believers, and their empty promises of a freedom that is really bondage. We will then study chapter 3 and see how the timing of Christ’s return is related to God’s patience and mercy. Peter reminds us that the delay of the second coming is not a broken promise but a display of sovereign grace, and that the certainty of final judgment should shape how we live in the present.

The false teachers who opposed Peter twisted the words of Paul to support their heresies. So that we might never do the same, we will examine four challenging passages from Paul’s epistles, including his teaching on Apostolic authority, the nature of Christ’s return, the mystery of the restrainer, and the doctrine of election. These studies will sharpen our ability to handle Scripture rightly, precisely the skill that Peter’s letter calls us to cultivate.
