Our study of 1 Peter emphasized the Apostle’s call to stand firm even when we suffer at the hands of those outside the visible church. Yet we have other enemies besides those who are outside the visible community. We must also deal with the enemy from within.

This month, we begin our study of 2 Peter. Peter wrote this epistle in the shadow of his imminent execution, and he devoted his final letter to equipping the people of God to recognize and resist error from within. We will see how Peter grounds the Christian life in the sufficiency of divine power, Christian virtue, the certainty of Apostolic testimony, and the inspired word of the prophets. Peter insists that genuine knowledge of Christ always produces godliness and that the Scriptures are not human invention but the very Word of God.

Because biblical authority continues to be challenged in our day, we will spend a week examining this important subject through studies on the authority and inspiration of Scripture and the formation of the canon. May the Lord establish us firmly in His truth so that we are not carried away by every wind of error.
