From the very first chapters of Genesis to the concluding words of Revelation, Scripture reveals that God loves order. He has an organized plan to bring organization out of chaos and always acts in a purposeful manner even if His ways are sometimes inscrutable to us.
Since our Creator always acts decently and in order, it is no surprise that He applies salvation to us in an orderly fashion, granting us the benefits that Christ merited for us according to a formal ordo salutis—order of salvation. As we continue our study of the systematic theology of the Bible, we will conclude our look at soteriology, the doctrine of salvation, this month. Our focus will be on the order of salvation and on the benefits of justification, adoption, sanctification, and glorification in particular.
In addition to considering these steps in the application of salvation, we will also examine what the Bible says about the related topics of the fruit of the Spirit and the assurance of salvation. May we bear this fruit in the power of God and grow in our confidence that we belong to Him.
These verses parallel the themes of the studies each week. We encourage you to hide them in your heart so that you may not sin against the Lord:
