As we studied through Acts last year, we noted the Lord Jesus Christ’s intimate involvement in building His church. As we venture deeper into the book of Joshua this month, we likewise see God deeply involved in leading Israel’s conquest of Canaan. Coming as Commander of the army of the LORD, He lays out strategies for defeating Jericho and Ai. Like Jesus’ plans for the building of His church, God’s battle strategies are not always easy to accept. But in the end, He gives His people victory.

As we come to the end of Joshua 8, we find the entire nation reviewing the stipulations of God’s covenant—His law. At that point, we will pause in our studies in Joshua to explore the theme of divine covenants using Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series The Drama of Redemption.
