What does it look like when a Christian grows in grace and truth? Those two things are very important. Number one, grace defines our position with God. So the more we grow in what God has granted in and through the person and work of Christ, the more confident we are in who we are.
The truth part of it is not just the truth that’s contained in the gospel message, which is the container of God’s grace, but truth also carries over into how we view life and how we view ourselves. So, what it looks like is one, more confidence in who we are because of what God has given. So even in our struggles and our ups and downs, we are confident of who we are because to grow in our knowledge of God’s grace is to give us confidence that we are the children of God. And sometimes circumstances and even our own failures will make us question that.
Growth in truth is to realize that the manner in which I am to live my life is because of what God has given in Christ. And so, it helps us drown out the noise of the world around us as well as the corruption that remains within, that we trust what God says and what God has given in spite of what we hear and in spite of what we think and sometimes even in spite of what we feel.
