Who is Jesus, and what did He accomplish? How one answers this question is a matter of eternal life or eternal death. After all, eternal life is to know the only true God and the One whom He sent—namely, the Lord Jesus Christ (John 17:3).
In systematic theology, we consider the person and work of Jesus Christ under the heading of Christology, which is the doctrine of Christ. We seek to understand what the Bible says about who Jesus is and what He has done so that we may be assured of His salvation and grow in our love for Him. Having looked last month at the person of Christ, who He is as one person in two natures, we now turn to a study of His work on our behalf.
The Lord Jesus accomplished our salvation through His obedience to God as the Mediator, exercising His threefold office of Prophet, Priest, and King. As Prophet, Jesus gives us the Word of God. As Priest, Jesus fulfills the law for us, dies and rises again to atone for our sin and justify us, and continually prays for us. As King, Jesus rules over all things for the sake of the church and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
These verses parallel the themes of the studies each week. We encourage you to hide them in your heart so that you may not sin against the Lord:
