Christian systematic theology seeks to give an orderly account of what Christians believe. At the center of the Christian confession, of course, is the Lord Jesus Christ. For the next two months, He will be the focus of our ongoing study of the theology of Scripture.

In considering all that the Bible reveals about our Savior, theologians typically divide the topic of Christology—the doctrine of Christ—into two main subjects: the person of Christ and the work of Christ. This month we will cover the doctrine of Christ’s person, seeking to describe just who Jesus is as one person who has two natures. The incarnate Son of God, we will see, is both truly God and truly man.

A right view of Christ’s person is essential for our salvation. Only one who is truly man could atone for the sins of humans, and only one who is truly God could exhaust His own infinite wrath against sin. Our study of Christ’s person will concentrate on the biblical teaching regarding the subject and look at how the church has confessed these truths about Jesus.

These verses parallel the themes of the studies each week. We encourage you to hide them in your heart so that you may not sin against the Lord:
