Theology is first and foremost a discipline concerned with God and the works of God. Having focused much attention on the being and attributes of God, we will now start considering His works. His first work, of course, was to create all things, including angels and human beings.

Our study of systematic theology this month will cover four main loci or topics. We begin with a brief overview of angelology and demonology, the doctrines of angels and demons, respectively. While Scripture does not give us many details about the origin of these beings, it does give us enough to understand their purpose and to be prepared to recognize the wiles of Satan and his minions.

Next, we will look at the doctrine of humanity, or anthropology. We will consider such things as what it means to be made in God’s image, the nature of human bodies and souls, and other topics.

Last, we will cover hamartiology—the doctrine of sin. God made human beings upright, but when Adam sinned against God, we were plunged into darkness and death and were enslaved to sin. Human beings are in the worst condition possible until God saves us by His sovereign grace.

These verses parallel the themes of the studies each week. We encourage you to hide them in your heart so that you may not sin against the Lord:
