God in his greatness saw fit to communicate something of Himself to human beings when He made us in His image. That is, He endowed human nature with certain attributes that are similar to His own so that we might reflect His glorious nature to the entire cosmos. By exercising our attributes in obedience to Him, we fulfill His purpose for us.

The attributes of God that correspond analogically to attributes of human nature include such things as power, knowledge, and goodness. God is each of these in infinite measure, and we will examine what that means as we look at God’s being all-powerful, all-knowing, all-good, most wise, most loving, impassible, merciful, and more. We will consider the differences and similarities between God’s power, knowledge, and goodness and the power, knowledge, and goodness of human beings, particularly the redeemed.

Many of the attributes that we will study this month, including love, goodness, and mercy, are what we call God’s moral attributes. Scripture often has these attributes in mind especially when we are called to imitate God. Let us seek to imitate Him as His beloved children (Eph. 5:1).

These verses parallel the themes of the studies each week. We encourage you to hide them in your heart so that you may not sin against the Lord:
