Many itinerant teachers existed in the first century, traveling from place to place to give instruction. Our Lord was one such teacher, yet what set the ministry of Jesus apart from the work of other traveling teachers in His day was the deliverance that people experienced from our Lord. The sick were healed and the dead were raised. People were freed from demonic possession at the simple command of Jesus. Most important of all, men and women received pardon for their sins.

This month, our daily studies bring us to Luke 7–8, where the third Evangelist gives us more details about the Galilean ministry of Jesus. Christ’s work of deliverance is on full display throughout these chapters, which feature such well-known episodes as Jesus’ healing of the centurion’s servant and the bleeding woman; His raising of Jairus’ daughter from the dead; His exorcism of the demoniac in the region of the Decapolis; and His forgiveness of a sinful woman who anointed Him.

Biblical deliverance emphasizes deliverance from sin. Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series Guilt and Forgiveness will help us have a better understanding of sin and its pardon through Jesus our Savior.

These verses parallel the themes of the studies each week. We encourage you to hide them in your heart so that you may not sin against the Lord:
