It is our privilege to traverse some of the most uplifting and comforting verses of Scripture this month—Romans 8:12–39. Here we learn that when our God liberated us from our slavery to sin, He did more than make us His own servants. He actually adopted us as His sons and daughters. As a result, we have a great inheritance reserved for us in the heavenlies, an inheritance that is absolutely certain.

In the midst of this month’s passage we find the promise that God causes all things to work for our good. While we love this promise, we struggle with it on a practical level. What of suffering? Is pain also a part of God’s plan? We will depart from Romans for several days at mid-month to explore this question with the help of Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series Surprised by Suffering.
