“The doctrine of the two ways,” to use Dr. James M. Boice’s term, is on display for us in the portions of the epistle to the Romans that we will study during May. Paul lays out two pathways. One begins with slavery to sin and leads to death. The other begins when God takes a person from that deadly path and makes him or her His own slave. Thereafter, the person walks a path leading to righteousness (and, eventually, to eternal life).

It is crucial that believers understand the process by which they are to advance toward righteousness. Therefore, in addition to studying Paul’s inspired teaching, we will devote a week at mid-month to studying this process—sanctification—with the aid of portions of Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series Developing Christian Character.
