Our studies in the book of Judges now bring us to Gideon, a most unlikely choice as a deliverer of Israel and yet one of the greatest of them all. Gideon’s humble origins and wavering faith, which God bolsters with tender care, serve to show forth the power of God, power that gives Israel an incredible triumph over its enemies.

As the major figures in this month’s chapters see God’s mighty works displayed, they are prompted to worship Him. When they learn of Him by observing His ways, their worship is enhanced. The same is true for us—as we grow in knowledge of God, worship becomes more exciting and relevant. We will pursue this theme in the final week of the month with the help of Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series The God We Worship.
