I noticed that among your previous contributors, there are several people who have committed grave sin or fallen into serious theological error. Why are their articles still available online?

Every Tabletalk article is submitted on a work-for-hire basis, and our publishing of an article does not necessarily constitute an ongoing endorsement of the respective contributor’s life, theology, and character after the article is published. Rather, our editorial staff, to the best of their ability, evaluates contributors when planning issues, and contributors are invited to write on particular topics based on their expertise at the time the issue is planned and published. Also, since each issue of the print magazine covers a particular theme with several articles that together represent an essential overview of the theme, removing individual articles could cause confusion or eliminate something we believe is necessary to address the theme adequately. Finally, the objective truth of a position is not determined by the character of the person who espouses it. Solomon was correct that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Prov. 1:7) even though he later turned from the fear of the Lord to idolatry. Our Lord did not remove from Scripture teachings delivered by individuals who fell into grave moral or theological error. The stories of God’s people and their sin are helpful reminders of our own weakness and our need for a Savior, and we should judge the truth of a Tabletalk article or any other piece of writing by Scripture and not by the human vessel through whom it was given. Therefore, it is the policy of Tabletalk not to remove legacy content from the website.
